Frequently asked questions.
Getting Started
-
Human Bean is a mental well-being space created around a simple belief: taking care of our mental well-being should feel as natural as taking care of our physical health.
We offer a space where you can slow down, have genuine conversations, and receive support without feeling like you need to have everything figured out. Through therapy, education, and community, we hope to make mental health support feel more approachable, human, and connected to everyday life.
Where Mental Wellbeing Connects.
-
We’re located at Level 24, Menara Worldwide, 198 Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Our space is designed to feel warm, comfortable, and welcoming. A place where you can take a breath and be yourself.
-
Finding the right therapist can take a little time, and there isn’t always an immediate answer. Different therapists have different personalities, experiences, and ways of working, so it’s about finding someone whose approach feels suitable for you.
You can explore our therapists’ profiles to learn more about their areas of interest and therapeutic approaches. We also offer a 15-minute pre-booking call if you’re unsure who might be a good fit. We can learn a little more about what you’re looking for and help connect you with a therapist who may suit your needs.
And if you begin therapy and realise the fit doesn’t feel right, that’s okay too. Finding the right support is part of the process.
-
Not at all. You don’t need a diagnosis or a clearly defined problem to come to therapy.
Sometimes, you might know exactly what you’re struggling with. Other times, you might simply feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or like something doesn’t quite feel right.
Therapy can also be a space for self-exploration, personal growth, navigating relationships, making sense of your emotions, or understanding yourself more deeply. You’re welcome to come as you are.
-
That’s completely okay. You don’t need to arrive with the right words or a clear explanation of what’s going on.
Sometimes, the starting point is simply, “I don’t know what’s wrong, but I know I’m not feeling like myself.” Your therapist can help you slow things down, explore what’s happening, and make sense of what you may need.
If you’re unsure where to begin, our 15-minute pre-booking call is also available to help you explore what kind of support might be suitable for you.
-
It’s okay if a therapist doesn’t feel like the right fit for you. Therapy is a personal relationship, and feeling comfortable and safe with your therapist matters.
If something doesn’t feel right, we encourage you to communicate this where possible. Sometimes, talking about what isn’t working can become a meaningful part of the therapeutic process. And sometimes, it simply means you may be better supported by someone else.
You’re never expected to stay with a therapist just because you’ve started with them. We can help you explore other options.
-
Yes, absolutely! If there’s a particular therapist you feel drawn to, you’re welcome to request them when making your booking.
If you’re unsure who might be the right fit, you can also speak with us through our 15-minute pre-booking call. We’ll learn more about what you’re looking for and help you explore which therapist may be suitable.
-
Your first session is an opportunity for you and your therapist to get to know one another, understand what brought you to therapy, and begin exploring what you hope to get from the space.
Your therapist may ask about what has been happening in your life, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you would like support with. You may also talk about your background, relationships, or anything else that feels relevant.
You don’t need to prepare the “right” things to say, and you don’t have to share everything at once. Therapy is a process, and you can move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Most importantly, your first session is not a test. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you walk through the door.

Our Services
-
At Human Bean, we offer individual therapy, couples therapy, and youth therapy (above 15 years old).
Our therapists work with people across a range of experiences, from navigating relationships, work and life transitions to understanding emotions, building self-confidence, and making sense of patterns that may no longer feel helpful.
Each therapist brings their own areas of experience and therapeutic approaches, so we encourage you to explore our therapist profiles to find someone who feels like a good fit for you.
-
Yes. We offer online therapy, allowing you to access support from wherever you feel most comfortable.
Online sessions are conducted through a secure video platform, and we encourage you to find a private and comfortable space where you can speak openly during your session.
-
Yes. Alongside therapy, Human Bean offers mental health consultations and workshops for individuals, organisations, and communities.
Our consultations and workshops can be tailored to different needs, whether you're looking to better understand a particular mental health topic, support your team’s well-being, or create more meaningful conversations around mental health.
If you’re interested in working with us, get in touch and we’d be happy to explore what might be suitable for you.
-
Most therapy sessions are 60 minutes, depending on the therapist and type of session.
How often you attend is something you can discuss with your therapist. Some people find weekly sessions helpful when starting out, while others may prefer fortnightly or less frequent sessions depending on their needs, goals, and circumstances.
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach.
-
Yes. Therapy doesn’t always fit neatly into a set number of sessions.
If you feel you would benefit from continuing your sessions, you can discuss this with your therapist. Together, you can review your progress, what you’re hoping to work on next, and whether continuing therapy would be helpful.
Our aim is for therapy to support you meaningfully, not to keep you in therapy longer than you need.
-
There isn’t a fixed number of sessions that applies to everyone. It depends on what brings you to therapy, what you hope to work towards, and how you experience the process.
Some people come to therapy for a few sessions around a specific concern, while others may benefit from longer-term support.
Your therapist can work with you to review your goals and progress along the way. Therapy is a collaborative process, so you can regularly check in together about what feels helpful and what you need next.

Your Therapy Experience
-
A therapy session is a space for you to talk, reflect, and explore what’s been happening in your life with the support of your therapist.
Your therapist may ask questions, reflect on what you share, or gently invite you to look at something from a different perspective. Depending on your needs and goals, you might explore your emotions, relationships, thoughts, behaviours, or patterns that you’ve noticed.
There’s no fixed script for therapy. Each session may look a little different, and the process is shaped together with your therapist.
-
That’s completely okay. You don’t need to arrive with a list of things to talk about or know exactly what you need from therapy.
Sometimes, simply starting with what has been on your mind recently is enough. Your therapist can help you explore from there and gently guide the conversation when needed.
You’re allowed to come into therapy with, “I honestly don’t know where to start.” We can start there.
-
Your privacy is an important part of creating a safe space for therapy. What you share is generally kept confidential and your therapist will explain their confidentiality practices and any limits to confidentiality at the beginning of your work together.
There are certain circumstances where confidentiality may have to be broken, such as situations involving serious and immediate risk of harm or where disclosure is required by law.
If you’re unsure about what confidentiality means for your particular situation, we encourage you to ask your therapist. You have every right to understand how your information is handled.
-
Yes. Therapy isn’t always comfortable, and that doesn’t necessarily mean something is going wrong.
Sometimes, meaningful work involves talking about experiences, emotions, or patterns that can feel difficult to sit with. Your therapist’s role is not to push you beyond what you’re ready for, but to work with you at a pace that feels safe and manageable.
You can always let your therapist know when something feels too much, uncomfortable, or simply doesn’t feel right. That conversation itself can be an important part of therapy.
-
Therapy isn’t always about feeling better immediately. Change can take time, and sometimes the first few sessions are about understanding what’s happening before knowing what needs to change.
If you’re not noticing the kind of progress you hoped for, we encourage you to talk about it with your therapist. Together, you can revisit your goals, explore what may not be working, and consider whether a different approach or another therapist might be more suitable.
You don’t have to quietly continue if something isn’t feeling helpful. Therapy is a collaborative process, and your feedback matters.
-
Yes. Therapy is your choice, and you can discuss ending or taking a break from therapy with your therapist whenever you feel ready.
Your therapist may suggest having a final session to reflect on your progress, what you’ve learned, and any areas you may want to continue working on. This can also be a helpful opportunity to talk about what support might look like moving forward.
There doesn’t have to be a perfect ending to therapy. Sometimes, knowing when you’re ready to take the next step on your own can be part of the work too.

Practical Questions
-
Our therapy fees may vary depending on the therapist and type of session. You can find the current fees when making a booking or by getting in touch with us.
We also offer a sliding scale option for clients who may need additional flexibility. This is discussed directly between you and your therapist, based on your circumstances and what feels manageable for you.
If you’re unsure about the fees or which option may be suitable, feel free to reach out. We’re happy to talk it through with you.
-
Our Continuity Plan is a 3-session package designed for those who would like a little more consistency and continuity in their therapy journey.
If a package isn’t what you’re looking for, you’re welcome to book sessions individually. We also offer a sliding scale option, which can be discussed directly with your therapist depending on your circumstances.
-
You can book a session through our online booking platform. If you’re unsure which therapist may be right for you, you can also arrange a 15-minute pre-booking call with us.
During the call, we’ll learn a little about what brings you to therapy, what you’re hoping for, and any preferences you may have. From there, we can help you explore which therapist might be a good fit.
-
We understand that plans can change. To help our therapists manage their schedules and make space for other clients, we ask that you provide at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule.
Cancellations or rescheduling requests made with less than 48 hours’ notice may result in the session fee being forfeited.
We also ask that you let us know if you’re unable to attend rather than simply missing your appointment. You can find our full cancellation policy when booking.
-
Therapy sessions are generally paid for in advance, and refunds depend on the circumstances of the cancellation.
If you need to cancel or reschedule, we encourage you to contact us as soon as possible so we can advise you on what options are available based on our cancellation policy.
For package bookings, any applicable refund or unused-session arrangements will be discussed according to the terms of the package.
-
We understand that life happens. If you’re running late, just let your therapist know as soon as you can.
Your session will generally still end at the scheduled time so that we can respect the appointments that follow. If you’re more than 20 minutes late without prior communication, the session may be treated as a no-show and the session fee may be forfeited.
-
If you’d like to support someone you care about, we understand that you may want to make therapy a little easier for them to access. However, we encourage the person receiving therapy to make the decision to attend and book their own session.
If you’d like to offer therapy as a gift, we also have gift cards available. Simply drop us a message and we’ll guide you through the process of purchasing one for someone you care about.
Sometimes, the best gift is simply letting someone know they don’t have to navigate things alone. 💛
-
This depends on your employer or employee benefits provider and the type of coverage available to you.
We recommend checking directly with your employer or benefits provider to understand whether counselling or mental health services are covered and what documentation they require.
If you need a receipt or supporting documentation from us, please let us know and we can advise what we’re able to provide.
Looking to provide mental health support as an employee benefit?
We also works with organisations to provide mental health support and employee well-being benefits. If you’re interested in exploring a corporate partnership or would like to learn more about how we can support your team, reach out to us at admin@iamhuman.com and we’d be happy to connect.
-
Human Bean therapy sessions are not an emergency or crisis service. If you’re experiencing a mental health crisis or feel that you may be at immediate risk of harming yourself or someone else, please seek urgent support rather than waiting for your therapy appointment.
In Malaysia, you can contact Befrienders KL at 03-7627 2929, which provides free and confidential emotional support 24 hours a day.
You can also contact Talian HEAL at 15555, Malaysia’s mental health crisis helpline, which operates daily from 8am to midnight.
If you are in immediate danger or require urgent medical assistance, please contact emergency services or go to your nearest emergency department.

Therapists spend so much of their time holding space for others. We believe there should be a space where therapists can be held too.
At Human Bean, we hope to build a community where therapists can connect, learn, reflect, and grow together — through peer support, peer supervision, opportunities for supervision with more experienced therapists, and reflective spaces to explore the parts of ourselves that shape the way we work. We also hope to create opportunities for therapists to share their knowledge through corporate workshops, while making it easier to build and sustain an independent practice through discounted access to our therapy space.
-
We welcome therapists who are committed to growing both as practitioners and as people. To be considered, therapists should hold a relevant professional qualification and be registered with an appropriate regulatory body, such as the Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia (LKM), Malaysian Allied Health Professions Council (MAHPC), or Malaysian Medical Council (MMC), where applicable. We also require at least one year of professional experience in the field.
If you’re interested in joining our therapist community, you can apply through our application form and provide the information requested. We aim to respond within 1–2 weeks of receiving your application. If we’d like to learn more about you and your practice, we’ll invite you for an interview before making a final decision.
